The alternative title, Pachelbel’s Frolics, derives from the fact that the tune bears an uncanny resemblance to Johann Pachelbel’s famous Canon in D, from Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo. It was recorded under this title by Eileen Ivers.

The tune occurs as an untitled hornpipe in Köhler’s Violin Repository vol.1, in the key of C. It is often transposed to D for convenience.
