In addition to publishing books of dances, Ruary has also published "For a Year and A Day - A guide for Teaching Beginners and Elementary Dancers". He writes: *It provides a programme for teaching Beginners and Elementary dancers the 64 steps and formations of Scottish Country Dancing at these levels. It also provides a list of dances for each of the 64 steps and formations that a teacher can use to teach each one of these, carefully arranged in a sequence that builds on what has gone before - there are no sudden surprises where there is something more difficult suddenly appearing alongside the focus.*
