James Stanley 'Stan' Hamilton was born 1928 in Ayrshire as the son of James Stanley 'Jimmy' Hamilton and Mary Hamilton of Auchincruive.

Stan Hamilton played Piano and played together with his childhood friend Bobby Frew (Accordion), his father Jimmy Hamilton (Fiddle), John McCroskie (Drums) and others.

In 1957 Stan emigrated to Canada along with his wife Anne and Bobby Frew.

In Canada he played with Bobby Frew and Bobby Brown (also originally from Scotland, joining 1961 to 1974, when left to form his own band). 
Stan formed the band Stan Hamilton & The Clansmen, later named <<http://my.strathspey.org/dd/person/2053/|Stan Hamilton & The Flying Scotsmen>>.

He received the RSCDS Scroll of Honour in 2005.

Stan Hamilton passed away 4 September, 2007.
