_Disposition_ changed to »Needs help« (previously »New«) I don't have the actual recording to hand, but I would guess that this is played AABBCCDD (where each letter stands for 32 bars' worth of the tune in question). The Virginia Reel is a bit of a strange beastie given that there are many versions around than can take anything from 40 to 64 bars. Personally at least I've never heard of a 32-bar Virginia Reel. Therefore, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, it may be safe to assume that this is a 4×64-bar recording, simply because it is good for four turns of a 64-bar version of the Virginia Reel. It would coincidentally also be useful for “any good” 32-bar reel, but that type of dual use occurs elsewhere in the repertoire, too. For example, Iain Boyd's dance, <<ddd:On the Quarter-Deck>> (an 8×32 reel) stipulates the tune “Admiral Nelson”. The dance, <<ddd:Admiral Nelson>>, in RSCDS Book 19, is a 4×64 reel, so a recording for Admiral Nelson (the dance) is automatically suitable for On The Quarter-Deck, simply because two turns of On the Quarter-Deck equal one turn of Admiral Nelson. Does anyone have the recording and can confirm the playing order of the tunes?
