Out of curiosity: How does a S128 (=24+40+40+28) dance fit a S8x32 (=256) recording? Unfortunately, I do not have the CD to check.

This is probably either a mislabeled track on the CD or a data entry error. The recording seems to be for the 8×32 <<ddd:Balquidder Strathspey>> rather than the 128-bar square <<ddd:Braes of Balquhidder>> (a MacNab set dance). I suspect this because the lead tune on this recording is the offical tune for the Balquidder Strathspey, and it would be difficult to fit seven different tunes into a single 128-bar set for the Braes. I'll try and contact Fred to see whether he can clear this up.

VERY specific and fitting info there... I assume this is a rare recording where the 18th century dance is served and not the MacNab 128bar dance... we might assign the historic dance to the recording, not the MacNab one. Thoughts?

This recording can't be for the <<ddd:Braes of Balquhidder#741>> from *Scottish Country Dances of the 18th Century* because that dance is clearly a reel, not a strathspey.

As I said before, this is a simple and obvious case of “dance mislabelled on the CD”. The dance is really the <<ddd:Balquidder Strathspey>> from RSCDS Book 24, because it is an 8×32-bar recording and the lead tune on the recording is “Mr Oswald of Auchencruive”, which is the suggested tune for that dance. We should remove the association with the MacNab dance and link it to the Balquidder Strathspey instead (regardless of the name of the track on the CD).

Oops, the "Reel" thing slipped through ;-) Good idea of connecting it to Balquidder Strathspey instead. I did that and left a note with the recording. I think that's helpful so that we know later why we "oddly" associated THIS recording with this other dance ;-)
