Both Whetherly Book 7 and Whetherly Book 12 have a dance "Sidlaw Hills" by John W Mitchell. Could someone who has both books please check if these dances are the same or differ. I would appreciate a copy of the instructions to make the entries complete.

_Disposition_ changed to »Fixed« (previously »New«) The two 4C 32-bar Strathspeys called "Sidlaw Hills", in Whetherly Book 7 and Book 12, are different. That can lead to endless confusion. I have therefore appended a note to each dance name. The dances are now called Sidlaw Hills (from W.Book 7) and Sidlaw Hills (from W.Book 12) I see no other way to allow users to distinguish them, as in most displays that users see the publication is not shown.

This situation sucks – much of the Strathspey SCD Database is built on the assumption that names are unique per dance author. Still, with a mind as prolific as John Mitchell's, it may not be that surprising after all. We will have to remember this when dealing with a MiniCrib for the dance, if there ever is one. I have changed the tags in the titles a little to make it more obvious where the dances come from. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this doesn't become a fashion.

I tried to find the via the quick seach interface, but did get no match for neither "Sidlaw", "Sidlaw Hills", nor "Sidlaw Hills (Whetherly 7)". As a quick fix, I have added "Sidlaw Hills" as official alias as well. Now the quick search finds it again. Cheers, Heiko

I am not worried about matching a Minicrib. If Minicrib uses the expanded name, no problem. If the Minicrib uses an ambiguous name, it has to be assigned to a dance "by hand" anyway. Again no problem. Eric.

I briefly disabled one "Sidlaw Hills" alias; the quick search found that dance anyway. That shows that the alias is not needed for the search. But I agree there's much to be said to keep the original (ambiguous) name as an alias. Eric
