The book says: When Vancouver was just a small settlement at the mouth of the Fraser River, it was known as Gastown - named after a well-known local character, Gassy Jack Deighton. The Vancouver Branch Demonstration Team first performed this dance for Miss Jean Milligan's visit to Vancouver in October, 1966. The dance was first published in Hugh Thurston's Thistle.
