Lord Byron, or, more correctly, George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron (1788–1824), was a poet and important figure of the Romantic movement. He was educated in Aberdeen and afterwards led a somewhat colourful life until he died from a fever in Greece at age 36. Byron took part in the Greek struggle for freedom from the Osman empire, and the Greek consider him a national hero (which figures in view of the fact that he, too, used to run up prodigious debts in his lifetime).
