From the dance notes: "I read a story about a Kirk that employed an organ blower in the 1800s. The membership at Garturk Parish Church on Calder Street in Whiftlet, Lanarkshire, was around 750. Apparently it was very strenuous work and demanded pumping the hand bellows three times every Sunday - 12:00 noon service, 3:00 p.m. Senior Bible Class, and 6:00 p.m. evening service - also any week-night services. Once during the sermon he fell asleep. When the next hymn was announced the organist started to play but no sound came out, so the organist had to pop round behind the curtain to wake him up. After that, during the sermon, he had to sit in front of the organ and face the congregation. The bellows were still in use in 1974 when there was a power failure during a storm or an electrical fault."
