Dance was devised to mark the 10th anniversary of Stirling Castle Scottish Country Dance Group. ‘Cruachan’ is the name given to the Shetland pony mascot of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. When this dance was devised the Stirling Castle Scottish Country Dance Group met in Stirling Castle which was also home to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
