Here’s some additional information from Atsuko Clement:
“At the time of Muriel’s retiral during Summer School, Bill made up a tune in jig time for her. At the same time John made a dance in reel time for her. Then both discovered that each made up a dance or tune. So, they agreed to match up the dance and tune. Hence the original of dance was a reel, but now it is a jig.”
