"Collected from Archie McNab of Toronto, Ontario. Toronto was named York in the old days and it was near there where, in 1823, Chief Archebald McNab and some of his clansmen settled on their arrival from Scotland. The Chief built a house on the banks of a stream which he named the Dochart after a river in Scotland. The proud and haughty Chief was named the Laird o’ Dochart." In <<ddpub:#1580>> this is described as a "reel for four couples", but the tune is a jig.
Table rows with a green background denote recordings starting with one of the recommended tunes and the usual number of repetitions for the dance (4). A yellow background means a recording with one of the recommended tunes but a non-standard number of repetitions. Recordings with a red background use a different tune and possibly a non-standard number of repetitions.
