“Collected from Archie McNab of Toronto, Ontario. Toronto was named York in the old days and it was near there where, in 1823, Chief Archebald McNab and some of his clansmen settled on their arrival from Scotland. The Chief built a house on the banks of a stream which he named the Dochart after a river in Scotland. The proud and haughty Chief was named the Laird o’ Dochart.”
In Three Traditional Scottish Dances - 4th Set this is described as a “reel for four couples”, but the tune is a jig.
