The source of the alias "The Inverness Sixsome" is unclear, it is not on the original instructions.

Under Music, the instructions state "Preferably use the same tune for each chorus, and one or more
tunes different from this for the figures."

The original instructions were printed by TYPANLITH at the Pitman Press, Bath, probably as a leaflet. This text lists four sets of "chorus {16} plus Figure {16}", making 128 bars. Other instructions in use add a final chorus {16}, making 144 bars.

On Jan. 26, 2015, 10:30 p.m. Heiko Schmidt (castle_ghost) wrote:

"I have a transcript of it (sent by Ron Mackey in 2007) - it is strangely written regarding this point:

At the top it says "4x32" which would be 128, but:

Then there is the description of the Chorus [16 bars] (not mentioning anything that it may not be danced) followed by:

Figure 1: ‚St. Andrew’s Cross’ [16 bars] + Chorus [16 bars] Figure 2: ‚Spin Setting’ [16 bars] + Chorus [16 bars] Figure 3: ‚Half Reels’ [16 bars] + Chorus [16 bars] Figure 4: ‚Lines of Three’ [16 bars] + Chorus [16 bars]

Since there is no statement not to dance the 1st Chorus, and because there are remarks after the four other Choruses stating "[2nd]", "[3rd]", "[4th]" and "[5th]" that sums up to 144 bars.

Is there any information anywhere stating that the initial Chorus description is not intended to be danced? If yes, that would explain the 128 bars."

On this basis the editors have chosen to enter this as a 144 bar dance.

Table rows with a green background denote recordings starting with one of the recommended tunes and the usual number of repetitions for the dance (1). A yellow background means a recording with one of the recommended tunes but a non-standard number of repetitions. Recordings with a red background use a different tune and possibly a non-standard number of repetitions.

Recordings whose titles are in italics are not explicitly linked to this dance but have been identified by the database based on the type, bar count, and recommended tune(s) of the dance.
