John Drewry wrote in the original description that the dance was for Robert MacKay of Edinburgh who introduced John Drewry to J. Scott Skinner's tune *The Haunt of the Gnomes* at St. Andrews in July 1977.

Furthermore:

*The dance may be repeated with the side couples leading :-
The first reels of three will be up and down the dance (Bars 17-24).
The second reels of three will be across the dance (Bars 25-32).
The straight lines (Bar 25 onwards) will be across the dance.*

and

*The dance provides a good test of memory and of orientation when done twice without stopping!*

Table rows with a green background denote recordings starting with one of the recommended tunes and the usual number of repetitions for the dance (?). A yellow background means a recording with one of the recommended tunes but a non-standard number of repetitions. Recordings with a red background use a different tune and possibly a non-standard number of repetitions.

Recordings whose titles are in italics are not explicitly linked to this dance but have been identified by the database based on the type, bar count, and recommended tune(s) of the dance.

Pretty hard to get right - especially as it's not often done.
