This dance is for Jim and Aline Cook who kindly invited me for supper in their former holiday home in the village of Chernex. This was in the hills above Montreux from where they had a lovely view over the eastern end of Lake Geneva and the surrounding mountains. Chernex, which is pronounced like “Shairnay”, is on the Montreux Oberland Bernois or “GoldenPass” railway line. This climbs and winds its narrow gauge way up from Montreux, through the gorgeous scenery of the Bernese Oberland, to the rail and river junction at Zweisimmen. The reels, snake pass and tournée may be taken to illustrate the loopy nature of the line.
Table rows with a green background denote recordings starting with one of the recommended tunes and the usual number of repetitions for the dance (4). A yellow background means a recording with one of the recommended tunes but a non-standard number of repetitions. Recordings with a red background use a different tune and possibly a non-standard number of repetitions.
