Dunnottar Castle stands on a rocky headland overlooking the North Sea just south of Stonehaven. During the Commonwealth Wars the Scottish regalia was kept in this castle and when the castle was besieged the regalia was smuggled out and kept at Kinneff, a village to the south of the castle.
