Two couples facing two couples round the room.
From issue 2853: The original notes to this dance contain the following notations at the bottom:
Repeat 3 more times (Hoping the magic works) P.S. If one person goes wrong, the magic doesn’t work!!
The “magic” Bill Forbes is talking about is that the progression of the dance over four repetitions is somewhat miraculous. The first repetition takes everyone away from their original partner and set, and further repetitions seem to irretrievably scramble things. But, astoundingly, after four repetitions, everyone is back with their original partner in their original set (!). And it works regardless of how many sets are on the floor. Truly amazing when it works. But as pointed out in the notes, if any one person goes wrong, especially early on, it messes up the progression for almost everyone.
